Downtown Population Growth

11th and Washington Looking East
According to a report from the Partnership for Downtown St. Louis(downtownstl.org), downtown has seen a 6% increase in population in 2008. This report is good because it shows emerging trends in the downtown area and that people are rediscovering our beautiful City. The reports also highlights some of the struggles downtown, including projects that are no longer moving forward.

Over the years, there have been great strides made to our downtown area. I remember when, after 5:00 PM, downtown became a ghost town, unless there was an event. If you believe what the media tells you about downtown or any place in St. Louis City, you would never go out. We need to be more positive about our city. The news media outlets in the metro area should be promoting city living and the happenings in the metropolitan region, not stressing just the crime elements. They are not warning you about a particular occurance, just about all of the bad things that are happening.
As with any urban area, you need to be cautious when you are out and about. Crime happens everywhere. We all need to work to curtail crime in our neighborhoods, just by knowing our neighbors and being aware of our surroundings; so that we can all enjoy the many wonderful attractions and restaurants the City of St. Louis and the metro area has to offer. Thank you for this positive website.
