BackStoppers Karoake Idol Contest

Recently, The BackStoppers held the fifth of of 32 qualifying rounds to select the next St. Louis Karaoke Idol. This most recent competition was held at Keeton’s Double Play Restuarant & Sports Bar, located at 4944 Christy.The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Officer Mark O’Brien and Mike McCloskey serves as the Karaoke Idol Chairman.

Seventeen contestants belted out a mixture of hard rock, soft rock, blues and country songs. Although all were great performances, in the end the judges had the difficult task of picking one winner. This round’s winner was Rich King who will advance on to the Grand Finale on May 8th.

The audience was also treated to a special guest performance rap performance by Matt Browning. His performance clearly energized the crowd. Proceeds from the event which included t-shirt, raffle sales, direct donations, etc. were donated to the BackStoppers organization.

Overview of The BackStoppers

Started in 1959, The BackStoppers provide needed support and financial assistance to the spouses and children of all local and county police officers, firefighters, publicly-funded paramedics and EMTs and volunteer fire protection units, who have lost their lives performing their duty. The BackStoppers provides assistance to counties served by Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop C in Missouri and Illinois State Police District 11 in Illinois

Even in the face of growing threats and challenges, police and fire professionals continue to respond with characteristic heroism and selflessness. Unfortunately, some lose their life in the line of duty.

It’s impossible to fill the void they leave in society and in their families, but by supporting The BackStoppers, we can express our appreciation in a tangible way for a life given on behalf of others.
