Thomas Coffee: A Cornerstone of Pride for the City
by Beth Stampone
Thomas Coffee is proud to call St. Louis its home. The local business of the coffee district has produced and supplied gourmet blends of coffee in the St. Louis region since 1905. The facility has remained a valuable local business for over 100 years and proudly announced its grand opening of its newly restored headquarters with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 9, 2010. The restored headquarters also contains committed new owners of Thomas Coffee. The business plans to be the premier supplier of high quality specialty coffee and carry on the business’s heritage to help the coffee district of the city to thrive.
The ceremony was held at Thomas Coffee’s original home on South Boyle Avenue with a crowd of important guests and local media. St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay accompanied the President and CEO, Bob Betz, for the official cutting of the ribbon. Followed by a tour of the office and coffee roasting facility, the guests were able to enjoy a cup of various Thomas blends and view a special French press coffee demonstration. The facility also displayed the equipment behind the scenes of the roasting and brewing process, with some of Thomas’ original machinery.
Thomas Coffee will remain locally owned and operated and help the coffee district of the city to thrive again. The business plans to make it’s high-quality, gourmet coffee available to everyone, from homes to restaurants and offices. Thomas currently holds three major markets locally with retail grocers, food service and office coffee services. The re-establishment of Thomas Coffee stands on three core messages of “Quality, Sustainability, and Local Supply.”
