Lunch At Hamburger Mary’s

By Mary Miller Cullins

I was invited to Hamburger Mary’s for lunch this week, a place I had my sights set on since the restaurant’s opening last month.  As soon as I walked in the door, I knew I found another cool place to eat and drink in St. Louis!

The Midtown Alley area is starting to boom and Mark Earney, lead partner in the group responsible for bringing Mary to St. Louis, knew 3037 Olive would be a perfect location for her.  In addition to Pappy’s Bar B Que and Double Apple Cafe & Hookah Lounge, Midtown Alley now has a restaurant, bar and club all in one at Hamburger Mary’s.

The main attraction is Mary’s half pound gourmet burgers, but the menu also offers appetizers, soups and salads, sandwiches, and delicious desserts.  I was surprised to find out that once I ordered my burger I got to pick the meat.  The choices include, choice beef, Angus beef, Kobe beef, blackbean, turkey, Ahi tuna, or a “brat” patty.  The burger also included a side dish, and if you want, for an extra dollar you can add an egg (any style) to your burger or sandwich.

Eric, our waiter, was very good and told me alot about the place.  Other locations include Orlando, Chicago, Kansas City, and Long Beach to name a few.

The decor of the place was “Hollywood” like fun.  Our table was on a platform that overlooked a section below.  The tabletop was covered with pictures of Snow White, Cinderella, and Pocahontas, with decorative lamps to go with the movie theme.

The upstairs is more like a Sports Bar atmosphere with a pool table and television sets for viewing sporting events.

In addition to the great food and atmosphere, Hamburger Mary’s also supports local nonprofit charities.  Eric told me if my friends have our “birthday club” there we could request the “Charity” table.  Located near the front of the restaurant is a quaint little private area (8 minimum).  75% of the check will go to charity.  They also have a “Big Girl Charity Bingo” each week.  Don’t expect anything similar to your church bingo. The bingo cards are $1 and all monies benefit that night’s charity.

This summer (hopefully by the 4th of July), Hamburger Mary’s will open a roof top patio for parties and dining, while enjoying a view of downtown.  Plans for an outdoor patio near the parking lot are also in the works!  I also saw a baby grand piano inside.  Every Saturday night, “Dining With Divas”, a musical show will be performed at 9:30 p.m. & 11:30 p.m.

This is “Oscar” weekend.  The stars will be shining in Hollywood.  How about stopping by Hamburger Mary’s for a little “Oscar” pre-party dinner in a star-studded atmosphere?  I can’t think of a more perfect place, and they have a red carpet, too!

Check, please.
