2nd Annual Harvest Festival In Dutchtown
By Mary Miller Cullins
DT2, the Downtown Dutchtown Business Association, is hosting their 2nd Annual FoodDay event the Dutchtown Harvest Festival on Sunday, October 14, from 11 a.m.-5:00 p.m. The fest will be held at Marquette Park at the intersection of Gasconade and Virginia. DT2 (The Downtown Dutchtown Business Association) is on a mission! They want to help existing businesses be more successful, recruit new businesses to the neighborhood, and improve property values for current residents, as well as attracting new families to the community. They believe that whether you are an owner-occupant, a landlord, a resident, or a business owner in Dutchtown you have an investment you must protect and nourish. They believe by joining together and focusing on developing the neighborhood in an organized way, positive change can happen sooner than later.
FoodDay is dedicated to addressing problems with food production, distribution, access, and education. Think of it as Earth Day, but for food. The goal is to invigorate the blossoming food culture of the Dutchtown neighborhood and the City of St. Louis. Highlights of the free festival will include a farmers’ market, cooking demos, a pie baking contest (yum), and live music.
Food Day is an international event created by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI). They address and praise healthy sustainable food, while tackling problems with food production and distribution across the globe.
If you are nearby the Dutchtown neighborhood in south St. Louis this Sunday, you should stop by Marquette Park and enjoy the food, music, and hands-on activities for kids and adults. There is always more to learn about living and eating healthy and events like this not only promote ways to do just that, they are fun too! So if you like arts and crafts, apple bobbing, potato sack racing, and shakin’ it to the big band sound of Miss Jubilee and the Humdingers, you can’t miss the Dutchtown Harvest Festival this Sunday, October 14. Who knows, you may discover a whole new way of living!
