Cardinals What A Year!
At mid season I gave first year rookie coach Mike Matheny a B for the excellent effort. “The expectation for his success has lessened since he doesn’t have Pujols and now Carp, we just want him to compete, but he will have none of that, he’s to proud to accept a mulligan season”.
Cardinal Nation is proud of the effort put forth by a team not expected to contend let alone play for the national league pennant. The appearance of a tailspin seemed greater with the season ending injuries for Berkman and Furcal, though the inspired veterans rooted on the rookies that filled in for them as they tried to recover. The rookie coach making tough decisions where skill set finally met guts and determination. Time caught up with the overachieving bunch of believers, as that diesel called the Redbird express finally ran out of gas.
Maybe the San Francisco Giants always were a better team but sometimes the better team on paper doesn’t always win. The Giants should thank the cards for giving them that little magic that stirs the inside of a champion that makes them reach in for that little extra that champions have in their tank, the giving of that 110%. By no means did the Cardinals rookies falter as it appeared, they defended the 2011 World Series championship courageously 100%. They learned about the other 10% the hard way.
