Cookie Spree Time On Cherokee Street
By Mary Miller Cullins
The 29th Annual Cherokee Antique Row Cookie Spree is this weekend and the weather forecast is stellar! Last year, myself and a few friends spent the entire afternoon strolling up and down Cherokee Street, in and out of quaint little shops, browsing, shopping, and best of all eating cookies! Local merchants on Cherokee Street, from Jefferson east to Lemp, will offer a bounty of holiday surprises, with each unique shop offering a variety of free holiday cookies. The streetlamps have been decorated and the historic neighborhood really has that old time holiday feel to it. You can enjoy music and seasonal festivities, complete with yuletide charm if you can make it down this weekend.
You can find all kinds of unique gifts for those friends on your list who may be difficult to buy for. My mom is still talking about the Christmas cactus I gave her last year and my friend going through a grunge stage is still sporting her flannel button down shirts she received. Antique lamps, clothing, nic-nacs, books, furniture–you name it–it’s somewhere on Cherokee Street.
Grab a friend or the kids and spend some time outdoors this weekend exploring Cherokee Street and all it has to offer! Both Saturday & Sunday, December 1 & 2, from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., many of the businesses will be offering special deals. Hammond’s Books, The Heirloom Room, Retro 101, Saxquest, and Bella are just a few of the participating shops. Check them out, they are sure to get you in the holiday spirit.
And you never know who you will bump into!
