Cozy Up This Winter

One way to save money on your heating bill and reduce the amount of energy you’re using is to stop heating rooms you rarely use.

Your furnace works hard to keep every room in your house warm and cozy all winter, but if you’re paying to heat rooms you don’t spend much time in, then you’re wasting both energy and money. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, lowering your thermostat one degree can reduce your heating bill by 1 percent.

Make sure the room with your thermostat is getting plenty of heat, but close heat vents and doors in rarely used rooms to reduce your energy consumption and lower your heating bills. Once you’ve taken this simple step, you may notice that your house has fewer drafts and warms up faster. Also, cozy up, statistics show body heat between two people can make up the 1 degree reduction on the themostat. Stay warm.
